Review of George Thomas Palliative Care Team written by a carer
8th January 2015

My aunt received excellent care and was visited weekly by the nurse from George Thomas. Myself and a friend who were caring for my aunt felt very well supported . The nurse listened to us and made us feel confident that we were looking after my aunt the best we could. The care was excellent. Thank you.

The service and attention my wife received was excellent. The team showed great interest and care. Sadly my wife died before she could enjoy the social activities offered.

We met our team today for the 1st time. I am looking after my mother (58 yrs - liver cancer) I personally felt the team was very good at explaining things and were very caring and sensitive of my mothers needs. Also it was pointed out to me that there is support for myself as a carer which is a great comfort. Thank you.

My father's care leading up to his death was excellent. When a crisis point was met, his GT key worker pulled out all the stops to get him re-admitted to the Hospice. His family felt that he should have been admitted to hospital at an earlier stage, though his was made difficult by the resistance of his elderly partner, who didn't want to be left alone. Perhaps more involvement of the whole family would have been useful.

I feel that I should have asked more questions about mums illness as I didn't think she was ill. But the team who looked after mum were such a comfort to us and helped so much. I do feel that you need more funding to keep up the group work.

Alan - my key worker - has called in to see me twice since my diagnosis in September 2014, he is very good listens to everything I've asked with answers. Katie, the Welfare Right Officer, has been excellent in sorting out my benefit, also explaining everything. The whole team has been really excellent. - thank you.

I think the care I received from the Welsh specialist palliative care team was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, and all the staff including the volunteers were really helpful. Always there with a smile, enjoyed lots of what laughter and friendship together. Thank you very much.

The team were amazing and I don't know how you could improve your service. They are all working there weight in cold and then some more . I can't thank them all enough for the care and attention they showed my mum and myself.
